Color mixing, and color theory is a concept that is easy to understand when you know how to mix colors.

  • Primary colors red, yellow, and blue can not be created by mixing two colors.

    Color combinations

    Here are some basic color combinations.
    • Yellow and Red = Orange
    • Blue and Yellow = Green
    • Red and Blue = Purple
    • Red and Blue and Yellow (equal increments)= Black
    • Orange and Red = Orange Red
    • Yellow and Orange = Yellow Orange
    • Blue and Green = Blue Green
    • Violet and Blue = Violet Blue
    • Red and Violet = Red Violet

  • Secondary colors are orange, green, and purple. These secondary colors are made by mixing the primary colors.
  • Tertiary Colors

  • Colors that are tertiary can be created on the color mixing wheel by mixing a primary color with a secondary color. The secondary color is always adjacent (next to) it. Examples are red-orange, orange-yellow, yellow-green etc.

If you want to achieve a shade darker add black. Example, Sienna is a shade of brown.

If you want to get a different tint add white. Example, dark blue has a tint of white in it, making pastel blue.

White, black or gray has no color or hue. These Fashion Colors are considered achromatic or neutral.
