• Hue is a specific saturated color that is bright, clear, and unmuddled. A hue is distinctly different from the colors on its right and left on the color chart wheel.
• Tone is a color you create when you mix greys with any hue. A gray hue is received after mixing black and white. Most colors have some tonal colors in them.
• Tint is mixed with another color, and could be considered pastel. A hue loses it color, brightness, and intensity when mixed with white, and becomes a tint.
• Shade is a color you create when you mix blacks with any hue, and is a color that has been darkened.

Primary Colors

Tertiary colors do not have specific names.

• The neutral colors are black, white, gray, and brown.

• Contrasting colors are opposing colors and have three colors between them on the wheel of color.
• Opposing colors mean these colors cause friction with each other. Orange to violet, red to blue, blue to yellow. They really do not get along.
