Acrylic Painting Tips

  • Acrylic paints dry fast, use a small amount at a time

  • Immediately put used acrylic paint brush in soapy water after use, do not let paint dry on brush

  • Mineral spirits, turpentine, or paint thinners should not be used to remove acrylic.

  • You can paint over acrylic with an oil-based paint. Acrylic paints cant be painted over oil.

  • When painting on wood, or other porous surface let dry completely before applying another coat. It can also be sanded.

  • Practice on glass plates which can be washed. Also, you can trace your artwork, and transfer it to your painting surface.

  • Acrylic paint is water based and can be cleaned up easily when wet. When dry it is difficult to remove.

    These removal techniques are not guaranteed, and you use them at your own risk.
    Additionally, it may take a few treatments before paint is completely removed.Research has shown it is not easy to get acrylic out of clothes, but using either of these two products seem to work well.

  • Goof Off Pour onto the spot and let soak, for about 10 minutes wash as usual.
  • Pine Sol Pour onto the spot and rub in, wait for 10 minutes and wash (machine or basin), in cool water with Dawn (blue) Liquid Dish Washing Detergent
