You will need the three primary colors which are red, yellow, and blue. From these three colors you can create any color accept white.
When mixing paints ensure they are blended very well.
Take a look at the color wheel chart to determine which colors you will be using.
It is very easy to create different shades, and tints.
To create a lighter color add white.
To create a darker color add black.
Hue means to change color. You can find more information on changing hues on the primary colors page.
When mixing colors you will need a palette. Which is a surface used to hold the oil paints. It can be anything, a board, plastic wrap. Most people get something that looks like the above palette.
After you have your palette you are ready to mix the oil paints.
If you want to change the texture of the paint. Lets say you are creating mountains with snow peaks. You want the snow peaks to be raised from the surface.
You can thicken the paint by adding plaster, sand, or sawdust.
If your paint gets thick, which it will, use Mineral Spirit as a paint thinner. Turpentine also works but it is very flammable. Mineral Spirit is safer.
